Description
The Charles W. Morgan is the only American wooden sailing whaleship surviving from the "golden era of American whaling." Formally designated a National Historic Landmark in 1967, she is the star attraction among Mystic Seaport's ships and boats. Launched in 1841, she made 37 voyages during an 8-=year career, surviving stormy seas, Arctic ice, an even cannibal attack during her wanderings in search of the whale. The 131-page book includes crew lists; a summary of voyages and logbooks; photographs of the Morgan, her captains, and their wives (five sailed with their husbands, two as expert navigators); the author's own detail sketches; plans; a glossary; and an index.
